So, I figured that with all the Green Hype and Green Chic going on worldwide it would be easy to get the ball rolling...just tackle the day-to-day in a greener way here in Madrid. Think again!
Went to buy a notebook...blank stares as I asked for one made with recycled paper...jaws dropped as I asked for one with unbleached paper! Had to deposit a check at the bank...got the hairy eyeball after asking if I could not receive so many useless bank statements in the mail and just get them sent by e-mail or in the monthly summary. (Don't they understand it would also save them money?) Stopped by my neighborhood well-stocked quiosco and asked if he had any publications related to ecología. Finger poised on chin, cogs churning in head...all I walked away with was a recent edition of "Today I Love English" (great name, eh? Tomorrow I Love Esperanto!) a publication for language learners that just happened to have an article on the Green Trend sweeping across (most of) Europe. Walked an extra 15 minutes to go to that Tintorería Ecolócia on Orense...IT'S GONE!
Don't worry madrileños, guiris and gatos...I'm off to hit the streets again in search of Greener Pastures!
